Over the weekend, my Bestie and I went to Seasons 52 where
Painting & Vino was hosted. I
purchased the “Sunflowers” by Van Gogh session on Groupon, a two for one deal,
as a birthday gift for my best friend.
We didn’t know what to expect and were quite blown away by the entire
process.
Happy Early Bday Bestie!!
We arrived early and had a drink (for inspiration). Then we were seated along with around forty
other people and the instructor began the session. As we painted we sipped on fruity drinks and
ate yummy appetizers. It was a great way
to celebrate her birthday, but also to relax and allow our right side of the
brain to bring forth our inner most creativity…
And while my painting looked quite the amateur (when
compared to the real deal) I am still quite proud of it. It now adorns the left
side wall in my room.
When I see it hanging, it makes me smile, after all Sunflowers were my brothers’ (he’s in heaven now) favorite flower. I remember a time when he planted some in our house and they were so big and heavy that they drooped. Which calls to mind that poem by E.E. Cummings:
“I carry your heart with me (I carry it in my heart) anywhere I go you go, my dear…”
And that’s how I keep him alive by small actions that provoke such treasured memories... God is good!
